ABOUT MAHESHWARI FABRICS

Synonymous with the royal town of Maheshwar, this weave was developed by a Queen of 18th Century India, Ahilyabai Holkar. With the coolness of cotton, luxuriousness of silk and lightness ideal for the hot Indian summers of the Malwa plateau, where this weave was born, the Maheshwari sarees have a unique history and patronage.

Ahilyabai Holkar was pivotal in bringing unparalleled economic prosperity to her kingdom and changing the course of traders and artisans in 18th Century India. She developed this unique weave which was a hit with the royals and saw the finest sarees crafted in this era. Hence, we felt it ideal to name this collection of sarees for dancers after a dynamic queen of the yesteryears.

With its light and breathable nature and lustrous colours and sheen, we at Tarikita felt this to be the perfect option for dancers to indulge in dance drapes for performances, practices and digital content. They are soft yet sturdy, washable and only get better with age! You have to try it to believe it!
